My vocation

Drumroll, please!  I’ve taken the plunge and decided to blog.  This is my first post, and I’ll make it short.  I’m truly blessed to be a mom, and I think I’ll write about it.  For starters,  our community group is reading a book called Serious Times by James Emery White (not a light easy read, but definitely a challenging read both mentally and spiritually). This week’s chapter is on vocation so I’ve been thinking,  ”What is my vocation?”  I think I would have told you that my vocation is teaching since I have an undergrad and masters degrees in teaching….but it hit me today….my vocation, right now, is to be a wife, mother, AND a teacher.

We’ve made the most amazing choice to homeschool our girls, and I get to add “teacher” on at the end after my two primary vocations.   That word doesn’t define who I am anymore as it once did.  Today, right now, God has called me to be a wife and a mother!!  I have one of the most awesome jobs in the world.  I get to do life with my best friend, my husband, and be with my kids everyday all day.  I get to love on them and help teach them to love Jesus more and more each day.  After what I read this past week I’m learning to do my “job” as an act of worship to God Almighty. It’s not easy to think that washing laundry, fixing dinner,  or cleaning up spilled applesauce AGAIN is an act of worship, but I’ve been challenged to do this.   Col 3:23 says “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” and for me that ‘whatever’ is doing laundry, cleaning toilets, and cleaning up applesauce yet AGAIN!

Recently,  I had a special moment with my girls, and I told R2 to grab the camera because I wanted to remember it.  In general, the girls usually wake up in a sweet sleepy mood and want to snuggle with me. It just so happened that on this day they ALL got up at the same time, and ALL of them wanted to snuggle with mommy.  So we made room and we cuddled together for a few minutes.  PRECIOUS PRECIOUS time….and definitely a Kodak moment for me….one I will remember for a long time.
